Welcome to a short summary of items from the October Council meeting held on Tuesday 14th

Community Grant Approvals

  • Cunnamulla Amateur Swimming Club – donation of $1,520 towards the cost of lane hire for the swimming season.
  • Eulo Development Association Inc. – waiver of hire fee for Eulo Hall on 31st October 2025
  • Country Education Foundation of Paroo – grant of $2,000 to support local youth to continue their training and education

Grant Funding

An allocation of $100,000 will be provided under the Scheme Supply Fund 2024 – 2026 Pathway 1 towards the cost of updating the Paroo Shire Council’s Planning Scheme. This work will be undertaken in 2026.

Landfill Management Plan

A requirement of the Environmental Protection Act is to have written procedures relating to the operation of landfills to reduce environmental risks associated with ERA 60 licensed facilities. To meet this requirement, a Landfill Management Plan has been developed and was presented to the Council for adoption with a copy forwarded to the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation for their records.

Annual Operational Plan - Quarterly Review

The review of Council’s planned operations for the first three months of the financial year shows a strong start with work having commenced on the majority of initiatives listed in the plan. The Plan aligns with the annual budget and identifies how Council will advance its five year Corporate Plan. A further review will occur after the December quarter.

Policies

The following Council Policies were reviewed and adopted:

  • Employees Conflicts of Interest Policy
  • Councillor Use of Confidential Information Policy
  • Human Rights Policy
  • IT Governance Policy
  • Ex Gratia Payment Policy

Infrastructure Operations

Bitumen seal construction work has commenced on the Jobs Gate Road with funding from the Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme and the Country Roads Connect Programme. Following consultation with rural residents from the South-East area of the Shire, it was decided to commence work this year from the NSW border.

Council’s other roadworks team is undertaking flood damage road repairs on the Bollon – Charleville Road on behalf of the Department of Transport and Main Roads
