Welcome to the Paroo Shire
Located in South West Queensland, the Paroo Shire covers 47,688km2 and incorporates the towns of Cunnamulla, Yowah, Eulo and Wyandra. The shire hosts vast cultural diversity within its vibrant rural communities and has a population of approximately 1700.
The Paroo Shire is filled with an ever-changing landscape, from the open Mitchell grass flood plains in the east to the Moriaty Ranges, the opal fields and the mulga lands to the west.
Sharing an area rich in history, eco systems, flora and fauna, the shire is highly regarded by birdwatchers as the diverse eco-systems lends itself as the ideal habitat for many species. The main industries within the shire include beef, prime lamb, wool, goat production, apiary, wildlife harvesting, opal mining, and the growing tourism industry. Located in a semi-arid zone, the region has in temperatures in summer ranging from 20 degrees to 45 degrees and winter temperature ranges from 0 to 30 degrees.

Explore our Towns
Cunnamulla, meaning "long stretch of water", gets its name from the picturesque Warrego River and is home to the world-class Hot Springs. A small town batting above its average, it blends rich pastoral history with modern outback wellness.
Under an hour's drive west, Eulo welcomes visitors with its striking Diprotodon statue and teaming bird life, attractions like the Lizard Lounge and handmade leather, and soothing artesian mud baths.
Midway to Charleville sits Wyandra, once a bustling railway hub and wool-boom stopover, now known for its relaxed outback charm and popular local swimming spot - The Beach.
Further west, Yowah shines as the opal heart of the shire, famed for its rare Yowah Nuts, living gallery of artists and miners, annual Opal Festival, and inviting artesian bore baths.
