To make sure your household bin is emptied weekly, we would ‘wheelie’ appreciate it if residents could make sure they are following the below steps:
- Ensure your bin/s are placed out before 6am on your bin collection day. If your bin/s are placed out after the truck has gone by, your bin/s will not be collected until your day the following week.
- Make sure that your bin/s aren’t too heavy, as the hydraulic system of the truck cannot lift them.
- Wheelie bins are for general household waste only, and NOT green waste i.e. branches, garden clippings etc. or animal droppings. All green waste can be disposed of for free at the dump in Cunnamulla (Old Charleville Road). Your bin/s won’t be emptied until they are reduced to a reasonable weight.
If your neighbours’ bin/s have been emptied and yours haven’t, it is likely that one of the above has occurred. If you require an extra wheelie bin please contact Council on (07) 4655 8400 (extra charge will be added to the rates notice for the property).
If there are any delays with waste collection due to a truck issue, we will advise as soon as possible via Facebook.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Dumping is illegal and there is more chance than ever of offenders getting caught.
Cameras and signage have been installed around the Paroo Shire to catch and fine illegal dumpers. The Queensland Government’s Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011 (WRR Act) states that individuals can be fined from $533 up to $53,380 if they are found to be dumping rubbish and waste illegally.
Not only are there fines for those doing the wrong thing, their actions impact everyone by costing Council more money in clean-up, creating an eyesore and fire hazard risk, and polluting our environment.
Illegal dumping of waste includes, but is not limited to:
- Excess general household rubbish including all that extra wrapping paper and food scraps from Christmas Day
- Green waste including grass and garden clippings (when dumped illegally green waste can spread noxious and dangerous weeds into our environment)
- Tyres
- White goods and furniture
- Workshop waste such as empty drums and scrap metal
How can I dispose of my waste in the right way?
- All of the above items (except tyres) can be disposed of for free at the Cunnamulla Dump on Old Charleville Road
- The dump is currently open 7 days a week from 7am - 6pm
- Tyres can be disposed of for a fee at the Council Depot on Broad Street, Cunnamulla. Please organise your tyre disposal with Council prior to dropping them off.
