A pet can be man’s (or woman’s) best friend, but having a pet is also a serious responsibility.
Anyone who owns a pet within the Paroo Shire has a duty to be a responsible pet owner, as members of the community have a right to live without negative interference from other people’s pets.
Below are Council's forms and fact sheets around cat/dog registration, permits for more than two animals, etc.

Registering your dog/s
Registering your dog/s ensures that your pet can be returned to you if it becomes lost, and fees go towards providing care for the dog, animal husbandry and dealing with animal-related emergencies.
It is a state requirement that all dogs in Queensland are microchipped and registered with their local council.
Registration Fees for Dog/s
- First entire dog: $67.00
- Second entire animal: $88.00
- Dangerous dog registration: $824.00
- Desexed dog: $36.00
- Second desexed dog: $57.00
- Aged pensioners discount: $10.00/animal
When your dog/s are registered you receive one free release for that animal over the registration period.
Fines upon The Animal Management Cats & Dogs Act (2008) will apply.

- Second desexed cat: $31.00

How many dogs can I own?
Any occupier of a residence inside a town area within the Paroo Shire can only own a maximum of 2 dogs. For people wishing to own more than 2 dogs a completed Excess Animal and Breeders Permit Application(PDF, 672KB) must be submitted to Council along with a nonrefundable $60.00 application fee.
If the application is successful, you will then be notified in writing to register all said dogs outlined in the original application. If the application is unsuccessful then you will be notified in writing to remove the said dogs outlined in the original application from the property by a set date. Failure to comply with then notice may result in fine and seizure of the said animals.
