Paroo Shire Welcomes New CEO
Martin Leech today steps into the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Paroo Shire.
Martin has over 30 years of international executive experience independently, delivering expert strategic and financial advice to corporate boards, shareholders, C-Suite executives and other key stakeholders across a broad range of sectors including agriculture, health, tourism, mining and energy while delivering transformational events involving significant strategic changes in organisations.
Mayor Suzette Beresford said “We welcome Martin to the Council organization and to our community. I’m sure the vast experience he’s gained in previous leadership roles will be invaluable as he takes up the CEO position with Paroo Shire.”
“I’m looking forward to working with the team and applying my expertise to give back to the community and lead tangible progress across the Paroo Shire,” said Martin.
Before moving to southwest Queensland, Martin was with the Napranum Aboriginal Shire Council in the executive team delivering a wide range of services to the Cape York community.
His career has seen him living and working in England, United Arab Emirates, China and Australia with a six-month fly-in, fly-out project in Pakistan.
Born and raised in UK in the rural county of Northumberland, Martin said he follows an “As One” team mentality with a work style of “Fun with Serious Intent”.
He is a mad keen sports follower – Brisbane Lions and Brisbane Broncos - as well as a ‘long suffering’ supporter of Newcastle United football team in the UK and over the past few years has been heavily involved in triathlons and cycling and served as a board member board of Triathlon Queensland for over three years.
On a lighter note, Martin said, “I’m keen to wet a line without the fear of crocodiles attacking, which was a real threat while living in FNQ.”
