Mayor Beresford’s August 2025 Meeting Wrap-up
Welcome to a short summary of items from the August 2025 Council meeting held on Monday 18th.

Community Grant Approvals
- Cunnamulla Bowls Club Inc. – waiver fee and provide disability portaloo for carnival on 30th and 31st August
2025-2026 Works Program
One of Council’s roadworks crews is undertaking heavy shoulder grading on the Balonne Highway on behalf of Transport and Main Roads (TMR). During September this crew will also do pavement rehabilitation work on a section of the Mitchell Highway, north of Cunnamulla, in preparation for resealing. The tender for cement stabilization for this project was awarded to Ellis Consolidated.
Maintenance grading has been carried out on the Pitherty Road, fire breaks around the Eulo Airstrip have been created and work carried out at the Lizard Lounge in Eulo. The Grader crew will continue shoulder grading west and east of Eulo on the Bulloo Development Road.
Restoration of Essential Public Assets (REPA)
All work has been completed for the January and September 2022 flooding events. Council is now awaiting finalization of the acquittal process for QRA to trigger payment of retention funds. Work on the January 2024 flooding event is currently being carried out and is over 50% complete.
Work is well advanced to have road re-instatement due to the December 2024 and March 2025 events assessed by Shepherd Services and submitted to QRA for approval. The timeframe for completion of this work will be until June 2027.

Appointment of Chief Executive Officer
Council resolved to appoint Mr. Martin Leech as its new Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Leech will take on responsibility for the position during September working with Interim CEO Mr. Neil Polglase to provide a smooth transition of the leadership role.
Local Government Depreciation Taskforce
Mr. Neil Castles has been appointed by the State Government to lead the Taskforce that will engage with councils, state agencies and the broader local government sector to identify opportunities to reduce the impact of depreciation on councils. The Taskforce will deliver its final report to the Minister for Local Government, Water, Fire, Disaster Recovery and Volunteers for consideration by 31 December 2025.
