NSW/Qld Border Fence

The NSW government has advised the Paroo Shire Council it proposes to build 230kms of exclusion fencing through the Shire along the same alignment as the existing Rabbit Proof Fence. Council has agreed to provide in principle support for the project as described and has authorised the Chief Executive Officer to enter into discussions to create a memorandum of understanding outlining the terms under which the fence will be constructed and maintained into the future. Council will also require a record or confirmation that consultation about the exclusion fence has been undertaken with all key stakeholders and potentially affected landowners.

RADF Funding

Following advice that Council has been approved a grant of $40,000 from the Regional Arts Development Fund for the 2021/2022 year, a meeting of the RADF Committee was held to organise training for the committee as a number of new members have joined and to commence the first round of funding. Advertisements will appear shortly inviting applications from individuals or organisations seeking funding to undertake an arts related project.

Spring Fair

Planning is underway for the Under 5s Spring Fair to be held in Centenary Park on Thursday 30th September, 2021, during the second week of the school holidays. There will be many favourite characters appearing, like Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Jasmin from Alladdin, Spiderman, Batman, Rapunsil and Ariel from the Little Mermaid. Other activities include face painting and balloon twisting. Tim Jackman, “King of the Kids” will also be singing all the favourite nursery rhymes and a free barbecue will be provided by CACH. The Fair will finish in the afternoon with the story book characters reading their stories at the Cunnamulla library.

Roadworks

Council staff and local contractors continue to carry out an extensive roadworks programme this financial year. The following works were mentioned in this month’s reports to Council:

  • Humeburn and Munda Munda Roads have received light-medium grading,
  • Replacement of guideposts and signs on the Transport & Main Roads network as well as roadside slashing,
  • Council has approved an allocation of $200,000 from the Roads to Recovery funding for the replacement of five grids on shire roads,
  • The 2020 REPA flood damage work restoring roads to their previous condition continues and is 25% complete.  It is expected these repair works will be completed in early 2022.
