Change of May Meeting Date

The date of May’s General Council Meeting for the Paroo Shire will be changed to Monday 24th May to enable Council representatives to attend the Western Queensland Alliance of Councils annual conference to be held at Richmond. This alliance was formed last year and represents the twenty odd local governments located in the Western areas of the state from Paroo Shire in the South to Carpentaria Shire in the North and brings together three regional organisations of Councils from the North, West and South West to enable joint advocacy for the region.

New Refuse Vehicle

Following the calling of tenders for a new refuse collection vehicle, Council resolved to purchase a Littlepact 12m3 side loading rubbish truck from Garwood International Pty Ltd and trade-in its existing truck. Replacement of the vehicle will provide a more reliable refuse collection service with fewer interruptions due to vehicle maintenance requirements.

Events

The Council has compiled a Calendar of Events for 2021 and details will be posted to the Paroo Shire Council’s website and distributed through the Visitor Information Centre. Events listed for April include:- the Eulo Motorbike Gymkhana and Enduro at Easter, the Under 5’s Easter Fair on April 8, Noorama Picnic Races on April 10, Anzac Day Services and the Cunnamulla Diggers Anzac Day Races on April 25.

CCEC Open Times

The Civic and Community Enterprise Centre will be open for public viewing on Thursday 18th March from 12pm to 2pm and from 5pm to 7pm prior to the Council staff moving in and commencing work from the new building next Monday 22nd March. Some minor finishes are still required to the building, mainly signage to the outside, this work can be carried out with no interruptions to Council operations within the new building.

Deadly Digital Champions

Cunnamulla Library has launched a programme to build a Deadly Digital Community with participating Indigenous Elders. Local school students have enjoyed being involved in the programme as part of the official launch, acting as “champions” for the programme and sharing their digital knowledge with the programme participants who are keen to acquire new digital skills.
