Investment Prospectus

Lucid Economics, the firm engaged by South West Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils (SWQROC) to complete the South West Regional Investment Prospectus Project has been visiting this week meeting with businesses, community organisations and holding public meetings to consult with the community and seek their input. This project is funded by the Queensland Government and is about the promotion of Paroo Shire and the south west Queensland region and raising its profile as an investment destination. They have also had the project photographer visit last week to record some video footage and photograph points of interest to be used in the project and add to the Shire’s photo library.

Civic and Community Enterprise Centre (CCEC)

Another month will see the completion of the new Civic and Community Enterprise Centre (CCEC) on the corner of Louise and Stockyard Streets in Cunnamulla. Prior to the Council staff relocating to the new building, members of the public will be able to inspect the facility on Thursday 18 March when it will be open for public viewing between the hours of 12pm – 2pm and again from 5pm - 7pm. Notices about the open viewing times will be posted on Council’s Facebook page and distributed through the usual channels closer to the date.

Adverse Event Plan

In accordance with requirements of the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Programme, Council has prepared an Adverse Event Plan which was tabled and adopted at the February meeting. The plan refers to events or incidents which have a negative impact on the wellbeing of the community and could include events such as fire, flood, severe weather, disease and drought as well as other unforeseen adverse events that could occur. The plan provides guidance for the Council and community to prepare for and manage any adverse events that may directly or indirectly affect the Paroo Shire.

Tourism

Paroo Shire will be attending the Outback Queensland Tourism Association (OQTA) Outback Muster in Brisbane next week to showcase the Shire and south west Queensland region. Staff will present to travel agents and media all there is to learn about Outback Queensland tourism for this year and beyond. The Muster will also provide the opportunity for tourism managers/officers to network and share information about new attractions as well as meet with Tourism and Events Queensland staff.

Roadworks

Council crews and local contractors continue to deliver flood damage works in the south east section of the Shire. Some additional works packages that are underway or due to commence shortly include the Gamarren/Charlotte Plains Roads, Glencoe/Cunnamulla Weir Roads, Mt. Alfred Road and Coongoola Lane. At this stage all roadworks scheduled for this financial year are progressing as planned.
