Flood Damage Works

Following heavy rain in February this year, Council has extensive flood damage work to be undertaken over the next eighteen months. This work is being managed for Council by the Proterra Group who held an information night on 12 August for all prequalified local contractors. The session was lead by Project Manager Eben Geldenhuis and he will be assisted by three Road Inspectors – Peter Carpenter, Lowell Tillack and Richard Watkins who will work closely with the flood damage work teams. Some of this work is already underway with a Council crew currently working in the south east area of the Shire and several work packages will be released to contractors soon for quotes. Residents will shortly see a visible increase in roadwork around the Shire over the next three months.

Projects

Civic & Community Enterprise Centre

Construction work is progressing well on the foundations and the slab works should be complete by early September, after which the steel structure will commence.

John Kerr Park Change Rooms

Roofing of the new change rooms is due to be installed, followed by internal finishes and services. This project should be completed in about a month’s time.

CCTV & Town Lighting Upgrade

Installation of the new CCTV camera network by Field Solutions Group has commenced with the assistance of Donald Thompson Electrical. The end of September should see the full system operational and an additional 22 security lights will be provided under this project.

John Kerr Park

The park is again open for public use within the existing COVID-19 restrictions. Cunnamulla Police are assisting the Council with managing use of the park by conducting regular rounds and noting any damages that may occur.

Community Connection Morning Teas

Community services staff will be visiting each community within the Shire once a month to build rapport with each community and provide the opportunity for staff members to interact on a face to face basis with residents to discuss programs, services and funding matters.

Digital Connectivity Project

Field Solutions Group are in Cunnamulla during August to look at sites for towers under Stage 2 of this project which will take the Wi-Fi coverage in a south/south-east direction from the town. Stage 1 will provide Wi-Fi to the area west of Cunnamulla, linking up with similar installations within the Bulloo Shire. Agreements for Stage 1 towers are being finalized and it is hoped the towers for both Stages 1 and 2 can be rolled out together so the overall project can go live at the same time about March 2021.
