Mayor Beresford’s November 2025 Meeting Wrap-up

Welcome to a short summary of items from the November Council meeting held on Tuesday 18th.

Community Grant Approvals

  • Cunnamulla Gun Club – in-kind assistance to provide an ablution block to support their 100 year anniversary event in 2026
  • Care Outreach Ltd – waive hire fee for Wyandra hall for community free concert and BBQ for Bush Bash on 5 and 6 December 2025

Community Grants Policy

A revised Community Grants Policy that complies with the requirements of the Local Government Regulation 2012 has been adopted. In order for Councils to provide grants to community organisations, they are required to meet the eligibility criteria stated in the policy.   Also included in the policy is a list of ineligible entities and applications and it is suggested community organisations read the policy before submitting an application and contact the Community Support Officer if they require any clarification.

Annual Report 2024-2025

The Annual Report for the financial year 2024 - 2025 has been presented and adopted by the Council and is now available for members of the public to view on the Council’s website. The Report displays the progress made in delivering the Corporate and Operational Plans, along with statutory reporting requirements together with financial information about Council’s performance. The Independent Auditor’s Report, which provides an unqualified audit opinion for the 2024-2025 financial year, is also included in the document.

Workplace Health & Safety

Minutes of the most recent monthly Workplace Health and Safety Committee Meeting were received and noted.   The committee is comprised of 8 employees including the Director of Corporate Services and the WHS Advisor.  The recent meeting was also attended by a Workplace Health and Safety Consultant and key matters discussed by the committee were – Incident and Hazard Reporting; Workplace Inspections; Training and Awareness; and a Policy and Procedure Review.

Library Services

The Cunnamulla Library will be hosting Santa photo sessions as part of their Christmas celebrations.   Families will have the opportunity to take free photos with Santa Claus on Thursday 27th November and Friday 28th November from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Some school holiday activities are being organized for mid-January 2026 before school recommences for Term 1.  Details of the activities will be posted on the Council’s Facebook page once they are finalised.

Wild Dog & Pest Control

Aerial baiting operations commenced on 19th October and concluded on 24th October with a total of 17,110 kilograms of bait meat distributed during the campaign both by air and on ground. There were 13,080 kilograms of feral pig baits and 4,030 kilograms of wild dog baits with 73 properties participating in the baiting campaign.

Council Meeting Schedule 2026

Council resolved that its Ordinary Meetings in 2026 will be held on the third Tuesday of the month except for October when the meeting will be held on 13th October 2026 to avoid the LGAQ event.

Local Resilience Action Plan

The Queensland Reconstruction Authority has requested Councils develop a Local Resilience Action Plan to help keep communities safe by providing a coordinated approach to identifying and prioritising disaster resilience actions and embedding resilience and risk reduction into decision making and investment.   A total of nine projects have been included in the plan across the categories of Human & Social, Built Environment and Roads & Transport. Hopefully the plan, approved by the Council, will be influential in future funding rounds for betterment projects and/or disaster resilience projects.

Infrastructure Operations

Flood damage repairs on the TMR Bollon-Charleville Road has commenced and is due to be completed by the end of November. Council is awaiting approval from TMR to commence flood damage repair work on the Hungerford Road.

It is planned to have 8 kms of road construction and bitumen sealing on the Jobs Gate Road, commencing from the NSW border, completed before the Christmas shutdown. This road crew will return to the Jobs Gate Road after start back to complete a further 3 kms and the construction of two floodways will be carried out in conjunction with these works by a separate contractor.

Avgas Tank & Bowser at Cunnamulla Airport

Council awarded a tender to Petro Industries for the Avgas tank and bowser system upgrade at Cunnamulla Airport at a quoted price of $250,000 with Council staff carrying out the associated ground works estimated to cost $100,000.  The project includes the replacement of the Avgas storage tank, installation of a new bowser system (airside and roadside), a new card access system, associated pipework and electrical works, site preparation including fencing, concrete foundations and related civil works.
