RMPC CREW

The RMPC crew has successfully completed shoulder grading works in the Wyandra area between chainage 100 and 126. The works were carried out to improve road safety, enhance drainage, and provide smoother driving conditions for road users.

Approximately 26 km of shoulder grading was completed on both sides of the road.

Flood Damage Works

Flood damage restoration Heavy Formation grading works commenced on Middleton Road on 5 May 2026 and are expected to be completed by 15 May 2026, weather permitting.  Following completion of works on Middleton Road, crews will mobilise to Jobs Gate Road to continue flood damage restoration works.

CONSTRUCTION CREW
The Country Road Connect project on Jobs Gate Road has been successfully completed, delivering a significant improvement to the local road network. The project involved the sealing of 5.5 km of road, including formation preparation, trimming, sealing and shoulder works. Sealing works completed on 1 April 2026, with all works completed on 30 April 2026.

Council’s construction crew undertook the initial formation and preparation works to ensure the road pavement was suitable for sealing operations. Following completion of these works, Downer carried out the sealing works after being appointed as the successful contractor through the tender process.

The completed upgrade will provide safer and more reliable access for residents, road users and freight operators travelling through the area.

Hungerford Road DRFA Flood Damage
The Construction Crew has commenced DFRA (TMR) flood damage restoration works on Hungerford Road. The project includes heavy formation grading along approximately 61.266 km of road to repair flood-damaged sections and improve overall road conditions.

Works are currently underway, with crews carrying out maintenance activities to improve road safety, drainage and driving comfort for all road users. The project is currently scheduled for completion in September 2026, weather permitting.

REPA Delivery: WQ Surface Trough (March 2025)
The REPA reconstruction program continues to perform strongly across Paroo Shire, with delivery and material production working well together to support ongoing works. While there have been some minor delays due to seal truck availability in one of our contractor’s delivery package, overall progress remains on track, with contractors maintaining momentum through staging and moving between work fronts.

Approximately 2,289 sites assessed, with 2,192 approved for reconstruction. Total funding remains at around $66 million, with one submission still outstanding for the Cunnamulla Levee remedial works.  All works are being undertaken by locally based Paroo Shire contractors.

Delivery Update
Delivery across the Northwest and Northeast Quadrants is well advanced, with contractors continuing to work through remaining areas while transitioning into new sections to keep things progressing.  Shepherd are project managing the scheduling of works and are doing a great job.  Current work being undertaken by individual contractors is summarised below:

  • Tuckwell has been unable to fully complete the Northwest package due to seal constraints which are being rectified. They have now transitioned into the Northeast and are progressing Ardgour Road following completion of Murrumbah Road to maintain momentum.
  • Russell Grader Hire continues works on Tilbooroo Road in package 2, with remaining treatments in package 4 on Humeburn Road to follow completion of Yerrel Road works in mid-June.
  • Schmidt Plant Hire is progressing along Western Warrego Road, with works extending toward Mt Alfred.
  • Schmidt Contracting continues along Linden Nebine Road, working east toward Koonawarra Road following completion of Heywood Access (Truganinni Road).

Mobilisation and sequencing across the program remains effective, with approximately 22% of total works now complete and overall delivery tracking well against schedule.

A detailed report on the progress of these DRFA projects is included in the agenda pack for each ordinary council meeting on our website within the infrastructure section of the papers.

Gravel Production
Material production remains strong, with approximately 390,000 tonnes produced to date out of a total requirement of around 580,000 tonnes. Production in the North area is now complete, with current operations focused across the Southeast and Southwest to support ongoing and upcoming work.

Current and Upcoming Activities
Contractors continue to maintain momentum across all active packages. Tuckwell’s move into the Northeast has helped keep progress moving despite some delays, while Russell Grader Hire, Schmidt Plant Hire, and Schmidt Contracting continue advancing works across their areas.

Looking ahead, additional Southwest delivery packages are expected to be released for procurement in early June, following completion of gravel production in the SWQ mid-June, with reconstruction works planned to commence in August.

Overall, the program remains well coordinated by Shepherd, with delivery and production aligned and progressing as planned.
