The Queensland Government is improving the resilience of the state-controlled road network and will be replacing the bridge over the Paroo River in Eulo.

Project status
Analysis of the options available for the replacement of the bridge was completed in late 2025.

To improve safety and resilience, it is recommended TMR:

  • Construct a new bridge about 20 metres south of the existing bridge.
    • other bridge locations and alignments were investigated but weren’t feasible due to cultural heritage and environmental concerns
    • the new bridge should be raised by about 900mm and accommodate pedestrian access.
  • Realign the Bulloo Developmental Road to accommodate the new bridge and location.

Hydraulic assessments have been completed on the preferred option for a higher and wider bridge.

The assessments indicate that the Average Annual Time of Submergence (AAToS), which is the average total duration that the road/existing bridge is inundated by floodwaters per year, would be decreased from 247 to 134 hours.

Detailed Design for the new bridge and approaches is progressing well and is expected to be completed late this year. This is an important phase of the project which transforms the conceptual design into comprehensive, actionable plans, providing precise specifications, dimensions, materials, and technical details required for construction.

Funding
The extraordinary disaster assistance is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
