After over twenty years with the Paroo Shire Council, Tim Higgins has decided to retire.

Tim started working for the Council as a member of the Parks and Gardens team. Since then, he says he’s done a bit of everything from driving the patching, rubbish and street sweeping trucks to pruning roses.

Some of his fondest memories include planting the gardens for the bushlands, setting up the shearing display and building the bore at the Visitor Information Centre, along with installing the irrigations system around town and planting the many roses that line the streets for locals and visitors to admire.

Over his time on Council Tim said he’s seen some big changes.

“When I first started, we didn’t even have a ride on mower, just a tractor and slasher. With better equipment it has made our work more efficient and safer.

The new facilities too have made a big transformation, like the new workshop and Council main building and the Hot Springs I think has made a huge difference to the town.”

Looking back on some highlights he said the bull ride at John Kerr Park was one of his favourites along with the rodeo for the teams to help set up and pull down.

Tim’s family has been in Cunnamulla for over a hundred years, and he has no plans on leaving anytime soon.

He said he’s looking forward to more time with his horses and attending race meetings from Gilgranda in News South Wales to Longreach in Queensland.

Tim, from all of us in the Paroo Shire we thank you for your work and wish you all the very best.
