Community & RADF GrantsApproved
- Cunnamulla Amateur Swimming Club - $4,158 towards hiring the swimming pool for club nights and carnival and $300 for costs associated with a “Come and Try” night.
- RADF grants totalling $38,710 to seven individuals/associations to conduct art and cultural projects.
Community Recovery & Resilience Project
Following community engagement, the Community Recovery and Resilience Officer (CRRO) is putting together a list of events and activities aimed at addressing the priorities that were identified as part of community recovery and improved resilience following the March 2025 Western Qld Flood Event. Council has approved the proposed activities that commenced this month and will continue to be delivered over the next nine months until June 2027. Details of each event or activity will be advertised on Council’s Facebook page and Website.
Memorandum of Understanding
Council has endorsed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Kunja Aboriginal Corporation (KAC). Both Council and KAC have a strong history of working collaboratively together on various matters. However, the MOU seeks to further improve and formalise these good relationships to both strengthen and enhance the outcomes for all members of the community.
Flood Studies
Funding has been allocated to the Bulloo, Paroo and Quilpie Shire Councils through the Qld Reconstruction Authority (QRA) to conduct flood studies for the towns of Hungerford, Thargomindah, Cunnamulla, Wyandra, Eulo, Adavale, Quilpie, Toompine and Eromanga. Development of a Flood Risk Management Study and Plan for each town will also be undertaken. Following a request for tender through the QRA and responses from five firms, Synergy Solutions were selected as the consultant to carry out this work. The Council has endorsed the arrangement for Bulloo Shire Council to act as sponsor for the delivery of the South West Qld Regional Towns Flood Studies across the three participating local governments.
Funding Application
An application for funding under the Australian Government’s Remote Airstrip Upgrade Program Round 12 has been submitted for the replacement of the existing amenities building at the Yowah Airstrip. The airstrip supports the Yowah community including regular visits by the Royal Flying Doctor Service and seasonal use by private and tourist aircraft. Suitable amenities will benefit medical personnel, patients, pilots and visitors and a replacement building, designed and certified by appropriately qualified professionals, is considered the most appropriate long term solution.
