John Kerr Park Precinct
As part of the master plan for the John Kerr Park and Swimming Pool precinct in Cunnamulla, the Council accepted a tender from Modus Australia to provide a new toilet block. The new facility will be located on the northern side of the canteen and bar area. Its establishment will allow the demolition of the existing toilet block and provide an area for the new Swimming Pool change rooms. This will be the next step towards implementing the Master Plan for the sporting precinct.
Infrastructure Works
Construction and bitumen sealing of approximately 15.5km of the Jobs Gate Road from the NSW border will be completed by the end of March. Upgrading of two floodways within this section of road is also being undertaken as part of this project.
Work is due to commence next month on reseal and rehabilitation of multiple sections of the Gamarren Road. As part of this project Council is looking to bitumen seal the 4kms of road joining the two sealed sections that would provide 32kms of sealed road from the Balonne Highway intersection.
DRFA Roadworks
Flood damage repairs to Shire roads due to the 2025 flood event have commenced on roads in the north-west quadrant of the shire and tenders for work in the north-east quadrant were awarded to local contractors Schmidt Contracting, Tuckwell Transport & Earthmoving and Russell’s Grader Hire.
Workplace Health and Safety
A random blanket drug and alcohol test was completed during February with 43 tests performed that included all depot staff, road crews and contractors at the depot. It was pleasing to note that there were zero non-negative tests. Council has an ongoing safety initiative targeting Drug and Alcohol in the Workplace that will involve various random site checks for sub-contractors and office staff.
Specific training for compliance is ongoing and training for high risk tickets such as Working at Heights and Confined Spaces is scheduled for staff to attend in April.
