South West Queensland is one of 12 regions eligible to participate in the Future Drought Fund’s Communities Program.

Together with the Regional Drought Resilience Planning Program, FRRR’s Communities Program team is connecting with local communities across the South West to deliver the Regional Drought Resilience Implementation Plan and the Community Impact Program Social Outcome Roadmap—positioning the region to secure funding and take action.

Now that the South West Queensland Regional Drought Resilience Plan (RDRP) has been formally approved by both the State and Australian governments, the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) and Regional Development Australia Darling Downs South West (RDADDSW) are moving into the next phase—turning the Plan’s priorities into practical projects.

Alongside this, the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal and the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation are activating the Community Impact Program, designed to empower local not‑for‑profit organisations to take collective action to strengthen the region’s social resilience to future drought.

To support this work, we are collaboratively hosting a series of short, interactive roundtable discussions with local stakeholders across South West Queensland and extend an invitation to participate. These sessions will focus on identifying and shaping RDRP projects and initiatives focused on social outcomes, while exploring the practical steps needed to successfully deliver in the region.

By bringing these Future Drought Fund initiatives together, the roundtables provide a space to move plans into action across shared priorities—helping turn good ideas into projects that are practical, supported, and ready to progress, while keeping communities connected along the way.

Community groups are encouraged to participate in this program to strengthen their impact and build long‑term social resilience to drought within their communities and are welcome to share the word across networks.
