Congratulations to our 2020 Australia Day Award winners! Your effort and commitment has not gone unnoticed and we appreciate all that you do.

Judy Roberts - Citizen of the Year

Judy has contributed enormously to this community’s image over the years and stands out with her community spirit and encouragement to others. She has been one of the greatest drivers in developing and designing the gardens and landscapes within our CBD, outer streets and town entrances over the years since she moved back into the district. The ripple effect flowing from the positive image our town gardens and welcoming atmosphere present cannot be measured from locals and tourists alike; there is continuous comment on how terrific our town looks.

Judy’s never ending list of ideas and projects over the years has both motivated and driven our community, always to benefit local clubs and events. She has tirelessly given her time and effort, as well as financial support, together with donations of plants and flowers to whomever and whatever function there is going. Whether it be weddings, community events or funerals, she is always there to help and support our district and its people.

The Cunnamulla community has benefited in all sorts of ways from Judy’s infectious positive attitude and drive and she is an inspiration to all of us and through this has helped put the Paroo Shire on the tourist map.

Holly Anderson - Young Citizen of the Year

Holly, in recent years, has been seen to grow into a very respectful, considerate and resilient young lady. Holly is well on her way to becoming a solid contributor to her community as a role model for her peers now and in the future through her kind, gentle, and compassionate nature.

Holly has competed in lawn bowls for the past 2 years and acts as one of the most important members in the Cunnamulla team. She guides and talks to the young members giving them the confidence to allow the team to succeed. Holly has been a major contributor to her team and won both the Mixed Triples and Mixed Pairs in the 2019 Championships Competition at the Cunnamulla Bowls Club. Holly now has the opportunity in the Mixed Pairs to represent Cunnamulla at a district level and with her partner to progress through to possible state representation at a Club Champion of Champion level.

In the past 2 years Holly has played at the Junior State Championships in Bundaberg and Caloundra. In fact, in the past fortnight, Holly has competed in the 2020 Junior State Championships. Not only do Holly’s achievements cover the sport of lawns bowls, but also in the field of swimming. Holly has represented Cunnamulla at a regional level for the past 2 years and has received Age Champion at both Swimming Club and School Sports level throughout her swimming life. At only 13 years of age Holly has both the achievements and attitude that the community should recognise and embrace within this young ambassador and future leader.

Cunnamulla Rams Junior Rugby League U10s Zone 5 Carnival

During the first week of the June/July school holidays, Cunnamulla hosted the Under 10s Zone 5 Rugby League week long carnival. This carnival not only contributed to encouraging and increasing the physical activity within our community’s youth, but also boosted our economy and strengthened our community by bringing business owners, organisations, service providers and community members together to support the event.

All of which would not be possible without the hosting club, the Cunnamulla Rams Junior Rugby League. The amount of planning and work behind the scenes to ensure the event to be as successful as what it was, was enormous and achieved tremendously by the Cunnamulla Rams Junior Rugby League. This team of volunteers were able to guarantee not only our youth, but also the youth of the other participating teams, a week full of memories and enjoyment, which is what all sport should be about. As always this club does all the hard work so our youth can enjoy life with their friends on and off the field.
