Community Comes Together on Youth Issues
A cross-section of the community attended a workshop in Cunnamulla last week to focus on youth issues currently facing our community. Representatives from the Department of Communities facilitated the workshop which concentrated on developing strategies, programs and support mechanisms for young people in the community. While a range of excellent youth programs already exist within the Shire it is obvious that many young people and their families need further support. The community looks forward to the opening of the PCYC facility and the appointment of a Youth & Family Support Worker in Cunnamulla over the coming months. The meeting was a positive step forward as the community works together to support young people in the Shire. I will be taking up a number of issues from the workshop with the Minister for Indigenous Affairs and the Director General of the Department of Education during their visits to Cunnamulla this week.
