Tenders on our Regional Air Service

The Qld government has recently called tenders for interested Air Service Providers to apply for a long term contract (four years) to provide air transport to areas of rural Qld including our Western 2 Route. No doubt people remember very well the problems and eventual collapse of MacAir. The Qld government acted quickly in this circumstance and appointed Skytrans to continue air services on a short term basis until the situation stabilized and tenders were called for the remaining four years of the contract. Skytrans has provided an excellent service in that time with 100% reliability. Council has made strong representation to the Qld government in support of Skytrans. Tenders are currently being assessed with a view to decisions being made within the next month. Once the tender is awarded to the successful carrier, Council will continue discussions with that carrier and the Qld government on ways to enhance the service…for example considering changing the days to a Monday / Friday service and pushing for an additional flight. Skytrans have been pleased with the increased usage of the service with numbers climbing consistently during their short time of operation.
