Stock Route Network Review
The Dept of Environment and Resource Management are currently conducting a stakeholder led review into the management and use of the stock route network (SRN) in QLD. The review has involved extensive consultation with a range of stock route users and managers regarding the proposed recommendations. The proposed regulation will seperate the pest management and stock route management provisions of the Land Protection Regulation. The key recommendations to be incorporated into the proposed regulation are:
- Changes to the fee and permitting structure for stock route network use, including an increase of fees
- Reforming the administration of relevant land, particularly regulating static grazing - implemented via an Annual Grazing Agreement as opposed to the current practice of Permits to Occupy.
It is expected that the new legislation will come into affect towards the end of 2010. In the meantime, while no new PTO's are being accepted by the Department, all current arrangements stand. For further information on how the new regulations may impact within the Paroo Shire contact Cr Jo Sheppard or Craig Magnussan (Dept Environment & Resource Mgt) on 33306161.
