South-West Local Government Association Conference & Dinner
Council recently hosted the South West Queensland Local Government Association AGM and Annual Dinner. Delegates and sponsors enjoyed a busy conference program on Monday 27 July with a formal dinner that evening.
Mayors, Councillors and staff from the six member councils were in attendance being Balonne, Bulloo, Maranoa , Murweh, Paroo and Quilpie. It was pleasing to see members of Parliament in attendance with Bruce Scott MP, Federal Member for Maranoa and Vaughn Johnson MP, Member for Gregory.
Wendy McKellar provided a traditional Kunja welcome to country with the conference agenda covering a range of topics including new legislation, road funding, industrial relations and climate change.
That evening, guests were treated to a superb locally produced meal which showcased local products such as organic lamb, local vegetables, beetroot chutney and sticky date pudding. Paroo Mayor, Cr Jo Sheppard welcomed all in attendance and was proud to mark the occasion with positive words for her team of Councillors and pointed to an optimistic outlook for the Paroo Shire.
